FNS40210 CERTIFICATE IV COURSE OUTLINE
To be legal. Under the Tax Services Act 2009, the Certificate IV in Bookkeeping qualification is set to become the minimum formal education requirement for registered BAS (Business Activity Statement) agents. If you are a contract bookkeeper, an employee performing bookkeeping tasks, or you are interested in becoming a bookkeeper, you must attain this certificate.

There are no formal requirements to study the Certificate IV in Bookkeeping course but we do recommend that participants hold at least a NSW School Certificate or equivalent.

The new legislation came into effect in March 2010 but a transition period has been granted until February 2012. After 2012 all Bookkeepers must hold the Certiciate IV in Bookkeeping as a minimum formal qualification. By using a BAS Agent... Taxpayers are protected by 'safe harbour provisions' which remove penalties for any misstatement or late lodgement due to mistakes an agent may make in the course of their work. These safe harbour provisions are not available to you if you are not using a BAS Agent to process your BAS.
