Disability

Who should do this course?

This course is for people interested in working with people who have a disability. This type of work is about maintaining the personal care and daily activities of people living in community and/or residential facilities.

The course will develop skills and knowledge in behaviour support, individual health, emotional wellbeing, OHS and community participation and inclusion.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal requirements to complete this course. However, we do encourage that participants be at at least an upper intermediate level with written and conversational English. If you are unsure of your level, simply contact us to arrange an interview.

Course Structure

This course is made up of 14 units:

  1. 10 core units
  2. 4 elective units

  • Work experience (those not already working in the field)

Face to Face Learning

Blended Learning
Complete part of the course in the classroom and part of it as a Distance Learner.  This structure is ideal for those seeking self-paced study, but who also desire some face to face interaction.  Contact us to register your interest.
Distance
This is a structured program where participants are allocated a trainer who will manage and monitor their performance throughout the course.

All course materials are mailed to you and all correspondence is handled via post, email and telephone.

It is ideal for those in remote areas but it is only for those genuinely committed to follow the strict guidelines of a self-paced program.
Traineeship
An opportunity no employee should miss…if you have been in full-time employment for 3 months or part-time employment for 12 months with the same employer, you may be eligible to complete this course as a government funded trainee. Ask us for more information.
Work Experience Work experience is not mandatory in this course. If you wish to complete the Assessments that relate to workplace tasks as part of work experience, you will need to organise this yourself. Alternatively, your Trainer will conduct these Assessments by creating a simulated workplace environment for you.

Where work experience is a mandatory part of a specific program, the College will arrange placements for students. Please note that work placements are subject to Police Checks, which we will conduct for you at a standard fee.
