About This Course

The Certificate IV in Mental Health qualification is for workers who deliver a wide range of services.

It has been developed for community service workers wanting to gain formal qualifications in the mental health field.

This qualification covers workers who provide a range of community services focusing on:

  • Rehabilitation and support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability
  • Implementing community based activities focusing on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability, and
  • Mental health promotion work

Entry Requirements

There are no formal requirements to enrol in Certificate IV in Mental Health course. However, we do suggest that candidates have at least 6 months experience in a job role that relates to this qualification.

It is important that you enrol in a course that is right for you. The College will assess your application and may ask you for futher information about your professional background and/or language skills to ensure that this is the best program for you.

Course Structure

The Certificate IV in Mental Health course is made up of 15 units:

Delivery Modes
Online Learning

You can complete the Certificate IV in Mental Health online. Online learning means you complete the entire course using the online learning platform. The content is presented per unit – you simply find the right unit and start reading. It’s like reading a book on your computer screen with images and pictures. When you finish a unit, you complete the assessment tasks, which are also done online. It’s easy, fast and a great way to achieve a Mental Health qualification.

Distance Learning

Distance learning is an alternative to online learning for completing the Certificate IV in Mental Health at your own pace. Distance learning means you study using the textbooks that we mail to you. You work through the course materials at your own pace and return your completed assessments by mail. This method is designed for those who prefer the more traditional form of study using books in hard copy.

Blended Learning

Many of our students prefer to complete the Certificate IV in Mental Health using a mix of both online learning and distance education. They do the reading tasks using the textbooks but complete the assessments online. It’s a practical approach to learning that offers great flexibility.

Clasroom and Workplace-based Learning

Work Experience

Some of the assessment tasks in the Certificate IV in Mental Health relate directly to the work environment. For these units you will need verification from a workplace supervisor as evidence of competence. This means you will need to complete work experience for a minimum of 40 hours. You will need to make these arrangements yourself.

We suggest you start planning for work experience when you are ready to enrol in a course.

Please note that some vocational placements may require a criminal record check. Course participants are responsible for this payment.
