What is a traineeship?
A traineeship is a program where you get to complete a qualification that is workplace based.
Do I have to attend classes?
You can complete a face to face classroom-based program where you attend only a number of sessions. Alternatively, you can choose to study via distance education where you won't need to attend any classes. You have the option to choose the mode that best suits your individual circumstances.
Am I eligible?
Firstly, you must be a NSW Resident. Secondly, you must select the trainee category for which you wish to apply.
Existing worker − this means you have been working with the same employer for at least 3 months in a full-time position or 12 months as part-time.
New Entrant − this means you have been with one employer for less than 3 months
How are the courses structured?
You will be assigned a qualified trainer to whom you will have ongoing access. Your trainer will assess your work and monitor your progress throughout the course. Your trainer will also arrange scheduled meetings with your immediate supervisor.
How long will it take to complete a traineeship?
This depends on you. We recommend that you complete a Certificate III or IV course within 12 months and a Diploma course within 24 months.
How much will it cost?
Existing Worker Trainees do not pay anything. All course and tuition costs are government funded.
New Entrants are subject to payment of the compulsory TAFE enrolment fee. The rest of the course is government funded.
