How We Support You

We genuinely care about our students and pride ourselves on maintaining a positive and supportive learning environment. We’ll help you in any way we can during your time at National College Australia, whether you have a quick question or need some extra support.

If you’ve never studied before, or it’s been a few years since you completed a qualification, starting a new course can be daunting. We want to make it as easy and comfortable for you as possible, which is why we offer one-on-one support at every stage of your journey, from start to end.

Learning Support
Student Support
Work Placement Support

Unlike many other registered training organisations, we don’t have different educators marking different subjects. You’ll have one educator from start to finish. They’ll be in regular contact with you via phone and email throughout your course, to monitor your progress and give you the support you need.

We’ll also track your performance to make sure you don’t fall behind. If we notice that you haven’t logged on in a while, we’ll get in touch to see if everything is ok and help you resolve any issues that are making it difficult to complete your course.

Our goal is for you to walk away with a nationally recognised qualification, no matter what stands in your way. So if you have any issues with administration, payments, certification or anything else that may come up during your studies, our team is here to help.

Our work placement program gives you the skills and confidence you need to be job ready. We’ll give you the opportunity to find suitable employers in your local area but if you get stuck, we’ll help you find one.

How We Deliver The Course

We give you complete control over your study plan, so you can learn when and where it suits you.

The reading material and assessment questions are accessed through our online learning portal. The system is easy to navigate around and very simple to use.

Mixed Learning

For those who prefer to read using hard copy books, we'll can post printed workbooks to you. The assessment evidence will still need to be submitted through the online portal and there will be an additional cost for the books.

Work Placements

This course requires a minimum of 160 hours of work placement.
Work placement is a structured program that will give you real life, on-the-job experience and the opportunity to practice what you learn. It’s mandatory for anyone who isn’t already working in the job role which means that if you’re in the industry but not working in the actual job, you’ll still need to provide evidence of having completed the minimum number of placement hours.

At NCA, we’ll give you the opportunity to find a placement but if you get stuck, we’ll step in and work with you to organise a suitable host. We take care of the administrative process in setting you up for placement and we prepare you so you get the most out of it.

Placement can be done in one or more blocks throughout the course but it’ll all depend on the employer’s preferences and how we can best work your schedule around theirs.

How You're Assessed

We use a combination of assessment methods to determine whether you have successfully completed each unit in the course. These include:

  • Short answer questions
  • Multiple choice questions
  • Written activities
  • Projects
  • Observation of practical skills
  • Logbooks
  • Workplace portfolios

Course Duration

This course should take you a maximum of 18 months to complete. You’ll need to spend about 15 hours per week studying to complete the course within this timeframe.

We understand that everyone learns at a different pace, so the time it takes you to finish the course will depend on how much you already know and how much experience you already have.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you’ll need to have access to the internet and a computer. You’ll also need some basic computer skills, such as using Microsoft Word documents, using the internet, downloading and uploading documents, using a digital camera, and downloading and saving videos.

If you’re new to all of this, don’t worry. Our learning platform is easy to use and we’ll provide you with extra support until you feel confident doing it by yourself. Don’t let the fear of technology stand in your way!

Working in aged care and community services also requires a certain level of fitness. There is quite a bit of walking and standing involved, and you may be required to help clients with mobility and transfers. If you’re not sure whether you’re up to it, get in touch with our team to discuss your options.

Recognition of Prior Learning

We believe you should get credit for the skills and knowledge you’ve gained from previous qualifications, work and life experience. After all, why should you spend time and money learning something you already know? Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that formally recognises your skills, knowledge and qualifications, so you can become qualified in your area of expertise. Applying for RPL is easy and our educators will guide you through every step of the process.

If you’ve studied at another registered training organisation in Australia, you can apply for a credit transfer. We’ll look at the subjects you’ve already studied and compare them to the subjects in our course, to see if there is a match. If there is, you’ll be awarded credit for the  units(s) or course.

• if the transfer is into a course of equal value, the charge will be the transfer fee plus the additional cost of the new set of course materials. This charge will vary depending on the course.
• If the transfer is into a course of lesser value, the transfer fee will apply but a part refund cannot be issued.

If you had the first set of course materials posted to your address and you'd like the new set to be posted, another postage fee will apply.
Course Extension Fee
Your course has a set duration starting from the date of enrolment (which is the date you receive the confirmation of enrolment email). You're required to complete it within this time period.
If, however, you have trouble in meeting assessment deadlines and you'd like some more time, you can apply for an extension. If the extension is granted, you'll be charged a Course Extension Fee.

NCA will keep your enrolment active for 3 years. If you have been granted an extension but have not completed your course within 3 years, we’ll have to close your file and terminate your enrolment.
Upgrade Fee
This fee is charged if we issue you with a certificate of Statement of Attainment as a direct upgrade to an equivalent qualification. If mapping is involved, it will fall under the banner of RPL (recognition of prior learning). If you're not sure, give us a call.$121 (inc. GST)
Police Clearance Checks
Some organisations may require a police clearance check for students on work placement. You'll need to take care of this before placement can be approved. Clearance checks cost around $45.

Student Stories

Marisola's journey: one woman's commitment to change the future for herself and her family.

Marisola’s story is an inspirational tale of how training can turn your life around. Marisola came to Australia with her young family from the Philippines in 2012. As a newly arrived immigrant, she had very little English and had never worked in her home country because she was busy raising her children and caring for the family. When she arrived in Sydney though, she realised pretty quickly that life in Australia wasn’t going to be easy on a single salary so she set up to find some work.
