Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

  • 1
Do you already have previous knowledge and experience?
National College Australia (NCA) will recognise prior knowledge / qualifications and experience under our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) policies. The recognition process can give you exemption for part or all of a qualification.
  • 2
What is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that acknowledges a learner's existing skills, knowledge, and experience to determine if they meet the requirements for a Unit of Competency. A range of evidence is required to support the RPL assessment process and if that evidence clearly demonstrates competency for the unit, RPL is granted and no further learning and assessment is required.
  • 3
How is it different to a Credit Transfer?
This is different to a Credit Transfer which is where the learner holds the exact same, or equivalent, Unit of Competency from previous training so therefore does not need to complete it again.
  • 4
What types of evidence is required?
You need to be able to provide suitable evidence that demonstrates the equivalent skills and knowledge you have gained through previous experience and/or studies. The types of evidence required depends on the Unit of competency and can include a resume, position description, manager references / reports, educational transcripts, documentation of relevant work tasks (meeting minutes, support plans, client care, etc...) or other evidence as required.
  • 5
    Why apply for RPL?
Having existing skills and knowledge recognised can help reduce your study load and the amount of time in completing each unit of competency.
  • 6
    Next Steps?
Speak to your course advisor to discuss the process after enrolment and the course fees. The first step will be to understand the qualification you are undertaking and the units of competency to be completed. From there you can consider your skills and experience and whether you have evidence to put forward for each Unit of Competency.

Without his (Sam - Assessor) ongoing support I don't think I would've completed my course. I can't thank him enough for his patience and understanding.

Initially when I enrolled to complete a certificate online through National College Australia I was overwhelmed at the idea of being a single mother, working full time and online study.

Sam guided me through each unit and was always encouraging and happy to answer all my questions.

Completed my HLT33015 - Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance (Physiotherapy) today!

THANK YOU to Lisa (Academic Assessor - NCA). You were amazing. Your kind and encouraging emails early mornings will be missed!

I wanted to give some feedback regarding Lisa Porto (Academic Assessor - NCA) my assessor. She was just fabulous. She always replied to any questions I had very promptly and always marked my work in such a quick turnaround. She gave me great feedback during the course and I think she deserves this recognition. She was even kind enough yesterday to give me a call to congratulate me on completing the course.

I had set myself the goal of finishing the certificate before Christmas and she helped me achieve this.

Also a big THANK YOU to you Cate (Student Services - NCA) as you also responded to any issues I had during the course quickly and resolved the problems promptly.

I have really enjoyed and been challenged by this course taken in my mature age.

Sam was a wonderful trainer and gave great encouragement and feedback on my assessments.

CHC43315 - Certificate IV in Mental Health

I was a bit concerned that the course would be too difficult for me as it has been quite some time since I was a student. I was also worried that the time commitment required would be too great and that I would not get enough support from Student Services and from my Trainer Assessor.

I shouldn't have worried. The course was challenging rather than difficult, but completely enjoyable. Student Services are very supportive if you need them (especially Cate), and my Trainer Assessor, Ana, was amazing. She went above and beyond at all times!

I loved the way I could fit my study around everything else, and I really appreciated that Ana, my Trainer Assessor, always responded to my queries very quickly.

Just do it! Everything falls into place and the support received is fantastic.

WOW, Yahoo and Yay! I'm feeling great.

A great big huge thank you to you for your time and support throughout the duration of this course.

I believe a credit should go out to you for your amazing response and turn around time with assessing my units. This quick response time really reduced my nerves and would help any anxiety that people may have developed.

Getting good feedback was both refreshing and reassuring and getting the right answer of 'competent' from you was always welcoming.

Thank You again!

James H

CHC52015 - Diploma of Community Services

Top marks to you and your organisation.

This whole process has been enjoyable, challenging and educational.

I have particularly relished telephone conversations wherein I was sharing experiences with someone who had a credible knowledge base.

I've been so happy and thankful for National College Australia in helping me reach my dreams.

Two months after receiving my certificate I got a job!

My journey in studying the Certificate III Allied Health has taught me a lot. At first, I thought I couldn't make it but because I had a goal and a dream to land a job I really wanted, I just trusted National College Australia and most importantly I motivated myself to finish the course to start a new career, and to get a job, which I did!

CHC42015 - Certificate IV in Community Services

Hi everyone, and especially those doing CHC42015 - Certificate IV in Community Services. I've seen a few people asking about job opportunities and thought I'd share my success. I have successfully gotten a job as a residential youth worker and will be starting in a couple of weeks., it is casual for 6 months and then the option to go full time after that if they're happy with my work.
I have applied for a few different jobs in that field and in disability support . Been offered an interview for each job I applied for and ended up having a choice between 2 jobs .
These types of jobs are 24/7 rosters and you do have to be flexible and available, which I am. The money isn't too bad either, the award rate is $37.21 basic casual rate before penalties (which you will get for certain shifts).
The knowledge I've gained from doing the course has given me enough to be able to answer interview questions confidently. I will also be able to get my 120 hours signed off by a supervisor instead of having to do a work placement.
